I have a Lexmark X1270 (old school printer) anyway its recently developed this problem, basically if will not print as it says there is a cartridge missing although its evident there are cartridges in there which are basically full. Any suggestions as to solving this problem? Thanks.

Thats a matter of opinion... My opinion is there not as bad as lexmark or xerox.

Try cleaning the contacts. Check sensors, check for broken wires etc. Reseat connections on the mainboard.
