I've been looking for a nice car for a while now and these look great. I know people have said they have a lot of problems but surely they can't be that bad as they're quite popular.
Anything to watch out for? Insurance is fine and am looking at pre 2006 ones. are only post 2006 the ones in the high tax band?

And because of the servicing casts and fequency.
Not very good MPG.
High Tax as I believe they all are and not just the pre 2006 ones.
Supposodly drink oil. (could be an internet myth tho).

The fuel is the main one. they absolutely drink petrol hence the reason they sell for silly cheap these days.
If you can afford the petrol they are not bad cars.

I have a red 231 rx8, love the car, nice to drive, handles well, sounds lovely but there are a few things to look out for when buying one...
Make sure it's been serviced properly, plugs, leads, ignition coils are very important should be changed every 30k i believe.
Oil isn't as bad as people make it out to be, i top mine up once a month maybe? never let the oil get low because of the tips on the rotary as they can get damaged and cost you a fortune.
If buying one, get a hot compression test done, this will tell you if the engine is knackered or not, normally you can tell by letting the car get warm by driving it, stop the car, turn engine off, then start straight away again, if it starts straight away that's a good sign, if not could be a sign that the compression is low and the engine needs a rebuild.
Only other thing is fuel is crap, through winter i was running around 13mpg, not sure what it is now but it's slightly better.
