me and my mate are wanting to enter our local hillclimb next summer, what car would you suggest.

ive been looking at mx5's (1.8).

budget for car is £1000
modifying is about £1000 (suspension and r888's)

we want something light and nimble.

wat you guys reccomend?

Sure you'll find one cheaper than that, and use the spare money for brakes.

loads for under 1k, as long as the timing belt is done they're a strong engine.

you can get a ph1 down to sub 900kg without a cage in it maybe a bit less.

all parts are cheap enought for them and standard brakes on them are well up to the job, just upgrade the brake fluid and braided lines.
take the a/c out using the clio cup aux set up (£170 from citren) that will save 15-20kg

just to give you an idea:

rust and things are an issue with cars that old now though imo, you'd spend more time under the car welding than doing other jobs.
good cars, but as for *cheap*, they dont fit the bill

Most 205 Gti's are solid underneath arent they?

Well in comparison to an escort, nova etc of that age

can usually find a clean nova Xe for about 2k. probably with decent brakes and suspension. haggle it to about 16/1700 and spend rest on r888's

id still go for the vts over them cheaper to tune/keep it running and its not all about the power on twisty hillclimbs

My comment was in relation to the Vts being the top of the class bhp wise.
