Evening guys

Jesus i just had a battle for the last 2 hours to get rid of this little fucker

Its called MS Removal Tool

Pretends to be an anti-virus scanner/software and installs itself then decides you have 30+ viruses and "you must delete these now to protect your system" and will not let you do anything (even open the task manager) until you have "subscribed to their antivirus program" which is where the scam lies

Will only let you open internet explorer so you can go online and pay their subscription "randsom" and blocks everything else saying "this program is infected and cannot run"

Had to open up my windows vista in safe mode in the end to track the fucker down and delete all its files manually (which had set themself to hidden) and delete it manually

God what a cunt! come across a couple of viruses in my time but that one was a tricky little shit

Just a heads up for anyone that its doing the rounds and nearly fucked my pc tonight

this has been about since before windows mate.

Not a virus either, more malware. Can be prevented by not going to dodgy sites and clicking stuff.

i use spybot: search n destroy and ccleaner for malware and general cleanup of pc, then use avg for the virus checker.

as for watching films online, thats what you get, try joining a download forum and download them that way instead. much safer.

Yes this bit of malware and ones similar to it have been around for years.

In my experience, people generally get this either from porn sites, or perhaps legitimate looking sites that have been hacked.

Easiest way of clearing it up is to boot up into Safe Mode and run CCleaner to delete all your temporary Windows/Internet files (including your Recycle Bin), then run the registry checks to delete any orphaned startup links etc. to the malware.

Then run a full scan of SuperAntiSpyware AND Malwarebytes afterwards (also in Safe Mode) to completely get rid of it.

I always run these three programs off a USB stick in Safe Mode by the way.

ooh, the sarcasm. The reason macs weren't able to get viruses is because they weren't popular, so you'd have to spend a lot of time infecting 1 mac user, whereas in the same time you could have infected potentially 100 PC users, viruses for macs do exist nowadays, but everyone knows only fags use macs anyway

Perhaps, but mainly it was due to Macs being PPC rather than glorified 'PCs' which they are now.

System restore is pretty much incompatible with the likes of Search and Destroy, in that you use S&D to get rid of some problems, but then something else happens so you System Restore (usually not killing the problem you were trying to solve anyway) and it brings back the shit S&D got rid of before

just use system restore then, got rid of many bits of spyware using it and yes it does get rid of it properly, my full time job is computer support and we fix many infections of spyware such as this using it, of course if it fails complete reinstall is next best bet

If this is the virus I'm thinking about then it's pretty smart. The popup does look identical to a version of Windows firewall and could easily catch you out! Impressed me at least

macs are fucking dire, PCs are also bad but they don't BSOD every 5 min like they used to, they're not bad at all these days, everyone knows linux is the winrar and mac is definitely bottom of the list, could argue this for decades though and get nowhere, it's all down to personal preference
