making a front splitter for the track/hillclimb designing it .. not a problem.. coming to attach it to the car, need ideas.

i have one which is just to attach an L bracket onto the current splitter and then bolt the splitter up to the angle bracket.

can anyone think of any other ideas that might save the carbon splitter from any form of holes etc?

wouldn't be a bad idea, taking a picture of the bottom of the bumper to see what we're working with, could use self taping screws and/or tigerseal?
design looks great though, what material are you making it out of?

I think you have the best idea. Other than that, try simply tech screwing it directly in? but I dont know what its like for fixing underneath. 4-6 small ally L brackets would be spot on maybe with a small bead of silicone to minimise flapping at high speeds?

Cant you design it with the shape of the carbon slitter integrated and use the holes that attatch it atm... or is it bonded on ?

its flat up against the clam underneath with just the lip you see sticking down.

im making it from 1/4" ply (usual material) and i could mould it to use the existing fastening points as the splitter does..

thats an option i could look at but i want to try if possible to keep a truley flat under pan.

i'd screw them on, one by the screw already there (although there would be a gap, however you wouldn't be able to see it, and it would sit tight) and also closer to the underneath of the car to ensure it sits right, and it tight. then do that 4-6 times around the splitter maybe?

And tie rods at the front to stabilize it and alter angle of attack if needed.

Road or Track - go for 1 option, saves on hassle big time.

We have both of ours protruding about 120-150mm

you will need some sort of adjustment on it, are you going for what AK has shown above? as it wont make any difference could even hinder if its the wrong angle

I like the idea of been able to adjust the angle of the splitter.

Rivnuts are an option but they might be just too strong in case I come off, I want something that will put up with the wind speeds of 150mph+ without the splitter tearing off but also want it to be weak enough to break if I do come off without ripping the clam to pieces.

What about attaching the splitter to the splitter? as I don't want to create a gap between the splitters for the air to start separating them if you get what I mean. Unless I just attach a couple of them along the back side of the original splitter and do the bolts up tight forcing the splitter to butt up to the original one and then maybe just run some black gaffa tape along the gap.. Maybe that would work well enough.

I'm not convinced that altering the angle will make any difference. AFAIK the idea of a splitter is to tap into the stagnation point that is created at the front of a bluff body (e.g bumper). This area has very low flow speeds (hence ''stagnation'') and consequently high pressure. By placing a splitter at the base of the bumper, this high pressure has a surface to act on. So extension of the surface will increase the area and downforce, but angle will have negligible effect.

AFAIK yes. The canard things on the side of the front bumper are often adjustable for angle of attack, but they generate minimal downforce themselves and it is more about the flow that they create along the sides of the vehicle. With a splitter, extension will increase downforce up to a point where you are actually too far ahead of the stagnation point and the pressure decreases towards ambient. If you look at F1 cars, they utilise splitters ahead of radiator inlets etc due to the fact that these areas will be of high pressure.

ok, not so much angle of attack but having it angled 'up' will generate lift. Angled downwill drag.

I'd say flat as a pancake it the target for the leading edge

Angled up won't necessarily create lift. The pressure difference will still be in favour of downforce, plus if he has a flat floor, encouraging underbody flow may actually provide some gains in downforce. Its witchcraft this aero lark.

I'd agree that keeping it flat is the best way to go though

escort cosworth front splitter design is worth looking into. its got adjustments for different settings, for an extended splitter.

This is what I was getting at with the angle up business, as you can see the lower portion is curved up to promote air going underneath the body.

aye... the Impreza is very much a WIP

Its secured with simple bolts and large washers to spread the loads. It simply secured with cable ties at the rear to stop any flapping

hat DTM cr is amazing, had moveable aero and roll bar adjustment that was mapped to track position accurate to like 2mm and also had a v band clamp to attach the gearbox to the bell housing
but back on topic, personally i cant see the rivets being to strong in the clam, but you could use low-ish tensile bolts so they would shear if you have an off but be strong enough to stop it flying off
