I want to purchase something to be able to read/cure fault codes on my car. would be a bonus if it could do it on other cars too.

What is the best route to go? Handheld ebay jobbie or software and cable for laptop?

I havent got a clue about this sort of thing.

Anyone got anything similar?

if your just after reading and erasing, get a small hand held reader. i have a LAUNCH one, reads everything. had it on a continental gt last weekend, was £40 off works tool van but im guessing they are available elsewhere

Never realised you could check fault codes without it tbh, ive got the codes now but would still be handy to have. What is tech 2?

Yip, I'm not sure on exact versions, the one I got about a year ago could do everything but access the REC and there's not much you need to do in the REC.

Opcom is a great investment, its paid itself over many times for me, used it for my own and friends cars.
