Changing stem oil seals on the 1.2. Shows signs of overheating so I've advised he gets it skimmed to be safe. Will it be alright to fit the standard gasket or will I need a specialist slightly thicker one?

As long as the headgasket didn't go due to the car overheating I'd leave getting it skimmed. There's no point unless it's actually warped - get a straight edge and a feeler gauge to check if it needs it, it's just an un-neccessary hassle if it's actually fine.

its not visibly warped the head ( ive used a straight edge and a light to see if it was coming through any gaps ). when i took it off, the coolant & oil holes had a thin crispy layer of baked oil. but the guy im doing it for can get a skim for £25 & there gona pull the old stem seals out as theyve gone all tacky and stuck them selves in hard.

Well if you don't get it skimmed (you're not paying for it anyway) and it turns out it needed skimmed it's you that the guys gna come back to.

If in any doubt at all, i'd get it done.

Aye obviously if it's in a position where it's causing no extra hassle get it done for peace of mind. If it is how you're saying it is though it definetely does not need it.
