Possible do you think?
Its the 1.6 16v lump out of my saxo. Gearbox etc already removed and all thats left in the bay is the engine.
Would something like a scaffold bar and some straps and two people be able to lift it out? I have no idea how much something like this weighs
Just needs to go in the back of a van

Its still a rolling shell as in struts and wheels, still be light enough (wheels can come off to lift it)

I've done it with cars I don't mind damaging.
If you're going out of the top make sure the car is nice and low to get it over the slam.

Ive sold the slam etc anyway so there is a reasonable gap at the front, supose I could lower it down gently without the wheels on onto blocks of wood so the sump is touching the floor then just undo the mounts and get some mates round......
Only way is the try I supose just wondered if its been done before as im a noob and dont know how heavy they are

I've put the engine on the floor then jacked the car up to get the engine out from underneath every time I've done one. Always found it a bit awkward getting the engine and gearbox out the top as one.

I dunno if its poss on a saxo, probs is, But anyway, I've always had the car at a workable height, got the jack on the sump, unbolted the mounts, lowered the engine, then used a 2nd jack to get the car as high as poss, before sliding the engine out under the cross member.
Chris F will agree this is easy.

Put a pallet underneath or a tyre to drop it onto.

When I stripped the Ibiza, the whole front end came off, undid the mounts (for engine and box) got some jacks and cardboard under it got it down then slid/lifted out. Me and a mate could lift a 1.9 diesel engine.

And ones that you don't want to damage too a V6 block is pretty heavy - even without heads

I always drop engines out the bottom anyway.

Engine on the VTS will NOT come out the top without a lot of hassle due to the chassis leg on the driver's side and the bottom pulley catching on it, Also slam pannel aswell due to the oil filter on the front catching if its a Mk1 engine.
It's easier to drop it underneath and jack the car as high as possible.
My way of doing it:
Jack under the sump with a block of wood
Unbolt all fuel lines, clutch cable etc
Then Unbolt engine mounts
lift car with engine crane
then voila engine is out
might have to do a bit of moving about but since you have the gearbox out already. should be a piece of piss

I did a vtr on my own, dropped the engine down onto a few bits of wood then got the car as high as possible then chocked it up and dragged engine out from underneath.
Taking engines out throught the top is a ball ache on a lot of cars.

I've done 2 Saxo engines without a crane, just dropped the engines onto the floor and lifted the car up. Much easier to use a crane and take it out the top though
