That's more than a boxter/M3 so doubt it, unless that's a big cambelt belt service, so possible but I doubt it

Sounds like crap to be honest..
Worst case:
Full service inc plugs, pollen filter, air filter and oil etc - £400ish
DSG box oil and filter - £120 ish
Haldex oil and filter - £80ish
Brake fluid change - £60 ish
A/C service - £80 ish
£840 or there abouts (thats going by roughly what we charge at audi for the older cars)
The R32 is a chain driven engine so no cambelt ..
only way i can see the extra £300 is maybe brakes?

No true - its not ideal to skip the servicing as its a wet clutch system so there is debris in the oil - a lack of servicing can lead to solenoids sticking, oil pressure problems etc - usually resulting in a failed mechtronics

No... the only thing the diagnostics is used for when the gearbox oil is changed is to check the oil temperature to correctly check/set the oil level..
Paddle shift on the DSG was an option

I paid £380 for the big service a few months ago and that included the haldex oil and filter. Add another £150 on top of that if you have the DSG box. That's the price from the dealers as well.
You'd old mans mate just got raped lol.
The mk5 comes with a cam chain which should last the life time of the car.

?? Why on earth would you say that? Lifetime is exactly that - the life of the car be it 100 miles or 100000000000000000 miles.....

Without knowing what's been done it's hard to say. If it's a major service and has had extras like brakes, tyres etc costs could spiral pretty quickly.
