As the title states. Me and my mate are going to hop on a train to the closest train station and wing it from there Coming from Kdy (Or Edinburgh really), so what's the best one to get off at?

I think the closest one is Wellingborough, although i'm sure someone'll correct me if i'm wrong.

Wellingborough. But Milton Keynes is alot more major. Cheap enough taxi from Wellingborough to pod aswell, taxi company to use is Twenty 4 Seven.
