Been asked to be a god parent to my best mates baby boy.
Never done it before and im looking for a christening gift, maybe something a bit unique or unusual as i dont want to get something engraved etc.. only to find out someone else has got him the same thing.

Anyone got any ideas or advice?

Thanks

I have a god son and am going to have another soon. I just gave his folks some money to put in his bank. All that stuff about buying silver stuff is better left to family anyway.

Think I got my godson some kind of nicely carved wooden toy train that said his name or something like that. Can't remember

I put £5 a month in to a bank account for him so when he is 18 or 21 he can have a bloody big party on me!

I just have the account in my name. I could have an account set up in his name but would need his birth certificate. His Mum & Dad don't know I'm doing it either so I'll just leave it in my name and it'll be a nice surprise for them all in about 15 years time

Not sure I quite agree with that. If anything happened to my brother I would look after his kids which is one of the big responsibilties you take on.

As for presents quite a nice one is a nice miniture Knife and fork set. You can get them from John lewis. Great for the special occasion and they don't use crappy plastic cutlery

I've only done the catholic one which goes on a little while longer. All I had to do was stand there about ten minutes reading off a sheet. Had no idea what I was saying and there was maybe 6 of us all doing it at the same time. It's all a load of bollocks really but i was still honoured to be asked.

"been" a godparent, because they aren't anymore?

Like the kid died or the parents took the role away from them?

We had a humanist christening because neither of us are religious in the slightests.
To us it was more about asking our closest friends to be god parents than anything else, and having a big get together with all the family.
