I hate these threads, but everyone else is making them, so thought I would.

Budget: £17,000 Max, preferably a bit less.

Criteria:
- 2006 or newer
- Less than 40,000 miles
- Convertible
- 0-60 in 6 seconds or less

This criteria is slightly flexible for the perfect car, but I needed some kind of baseline.

I'm also relatively flexible on whether it's 2 seater or 4 seater but 4 seats would definitely be an advantage.

So far I've shortlisted an E46 M3 Convertible and a Z4M Roadster.

Thanks!

Why does it have to be 2006 or newer? You're restricting yourself to the "RAPE TAX" cars.

Yeh I know that, just that I want something relatively new. But if I saw the perfect car that was 2005, it wouldn't stop me buying it.

I really like this, but I'm not in position to buy just yet and Z4M Roadsters seem to be quite rare:

Thought about Boxster S. But I know if I got one, I'd be longing for a 911. I haven't ruled it out completely though.

Boxster S. You'd probably have to go for a year older and slightly more mileage for your budget though

Ironically the Boxster drives better than the 911 unless you splash out for a Carrera4.. However I'd rather have the 911!

Silver or Grey are my favourite colours for cars.

Having said that, Imola Red is a nice colour. As is that rare blue M3 colour (I forgot the name)

What's the best gearbox to go for with an M3, the SMG is good, right?

SMG all the way! Why bother with a clutch pedal when a computer can change gear faster than you

Considered that, but IMO they don't have much road presence and look a bit bland. Nice cars though.

To make it a bit more involving to drive. I miss having a clutch
