When i look closley at my roof i can see bits of dust and small faded patches (presumably from bird shit?).

Whats the best way of cleaning it and protecting it? Somebody has said soapy water and a brush of some kind, and then some form of vinyl protection. But i always thought soap made fabric go funny and shit?

Any ideas/tips?

Edit:- Fabric not vinyl

When I used to valet we used to cover the roof with TFR (truck wash) and then scrub like fuck and finish off by jetting it all off
