Right, bit of a random one. I am wanting to install a intercom system at my house for security purposes.
I need to find a unit/manufacturer that makes a system which will:

- Require a key/fob to open the door
- Have a built in intercom call system so you can release the lock from the house

Can anyone advise me on a system which will include this?

I'd steer clear of Chubb and ADT personally.

Honeywell are the manufacturer we use in work pretty much exclusively.

Even braver if you have a Chubb or ADT system considering they are closed protocol.

You should be able to buy an open protocol solution out the box from an electrical wholesalers. Is there a Star Lighting near where you live? That's who we've been using recently and they're reasonable.

If you use Chubb or ADT stuff and it breaks you will need them to come out. If you need a part you will have to go to them direct. If the model becomes obselete you will have to change it altogether.

I've asked an engineer that's come in just there as I'm nice like that and he's suggested...

Open protocol is generally where the system doesnt require components from the same manufacturer

ADT don't have their own intercom system, they buy from others (a lot of their stuff is made by Honeywell IIRC) and rebranded ADT.

But I do agreed, you can get the same/better stuff much cheaper from elsewhere

Ours was installed by Mitte. They used ADACS top end software, and PAC Keyfobs. Although this was on a large works, and includes all the security and CCTV too.

EDIT: Some smaller sites have one of these fitted http://www.pac.co.uk/products/door-controllers-mainmenu-58/easikey-250.html (older model to this though). Basically allows up to 99 Key fobs to be assigned and allows access to 2 doors.

Paxton for the access control and a Helios IP intercom, Both IP solutions and PoE so no need for power, simpy run in some Cat5 and configure.

Paxton will also have a GSM interface so can open from anywhere in the world simply by dialing the unit from a predefined mobile/s

Also the Paxton solution you can use proximity fobs so no need to get the fob out simply drive / walk up to gate and it will open.

I'm not completely sure about their security stuff tbh, we've only started installing in the last 6 months and don't have NACOSS yet but we've (well the company I work for) have been BAFE Gold Standard for several years and all their fire stuff is manufactured by themselves and a complete cunt to work with. Parts are extortionate and they refuse to give out engineering codes etc...

yeah their fire and door access stuff is made by them I think, but their security stuff is other peoples. I worked for them for nearly 9 years, but on a different department, so never really got too involved with the fire or security products
