Hallo, I made a thread some months ago along the lines of 'what car for 10k?' and got a few sound suggestions, but now my current car (04 Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDi) looks like it's dying - it's time to get a move on...
I've been at a Honda dealership today and took a Civic Type S-GT out for a test drive - and liked it.
Are there any owners on CS of these cars, or are there any honda enthusiasts which might be able to shed some light on some things to look out for?
My Plan is to buy a fairly new used car and to keep it tidy for three years or so then move on, I looked at one today which was a 10 plate and had 16k miles which was within my budget, and the dealership offered 1 year warrenty on the back of the existing manufacturors warrenty to cover my intended three year ownership window.
Performance-wise it would seem to be a slight upgrade over my ibiza (8.6sec to 60 rather than 9.1), but obviously a downgrade in fuel economy. The Honda had lots of nice little toys though like dual climate, cruise control and a mahoosive sunroof which makes it a more appealing car to drive around.
For the record, the car I looked at was £12k - and they offered 2k for my Ibiza. I could probably argue a few more ££ out of them for the SEAT, but it's in a shit state and I can't really be arsed.
I'm going to run the numbers for my finances tonight, and I may consider putting a deposit down for this car tomorrow unless anyone has any horror stories about this particular model/spec - so any feedback is much appreciated.

The Ibiza is well known to be faster than book figures, a heavier 1.8 petrol won't be any quicker.

That's fair enough (plus, I've had my ibiza remapped so it's likely to be a little faster anyway) but that's not massively high on my list of priorities. If it was I could spend my 12k on something a bit older and massively faster!

I wouldn't even bother with a Type S. Get the Type R. Much better performance and it'll hold its value better too!

I'd take an R32 over a GT anyday  It'll hold it's money, it's new, reliable, sounds the tits and pretty quick

The insurance on a type r would be £100 more per month than the type s, and I think I've grown out of racing around now - I just want something comfortable and full of gadgets, without being a significant performance downgrade.
Maybe I'll look at a Type R next time around, because they are gorgeous!
Golf is a fair shout, and I've looked at quite a few - my missus thinks they're boring though

I think its because the GTI can do 90% of what the r32 can with less running costs?

I've fouud that the people that want an R32 ain't bothered about the running costs plus I bet there cheaper to run than the gti. The only thing more expensive will be the extra tax price.

I'm 24, clean NCB since I started driving @ 17 - but the Type-S is £45 a month and a CTR would be £150, it's still not mega money as I was paying much more than that when I got my Ibiza at 19 - but my priorities have shifted now and I want as many toys and as much comfort as possible for my budget.
The Type-S seems to qualify for these requirements, I could have easily managed a slightly older CTR for my budget or a lesser specced/older Golf - but I'm not really interested in going particularly fast anymore

For the record, I bought the Type S which I went to look at.
Chuffed to bits with it, it is slower than my Ibiza though but I was ready for that!
The Civic is a lot of fun though when given some welly, I forgot how addictively expensive the sound of high revving petrol engines were..
The amount of toys makes it worth it, and the handling/general quality of the ride is far superior.
