Been offered one by a mate think he's a bit desperate to get rid as short of cash. Anyway ph1 172, 100k needs a new clutch, no tax or.test. £400 tempted to buy and do the clutch myself. Is it straight forward on these ? Would either use myself or sell on for profit. What u think?

Yer I'd buy it for that, as long as theres a couple of you doing the clutch it will be ok, If the engine is as tight in the bay as a 206 GTi 180 then the clutch job is a bit of a mare but definitely worth it for the money you will save doing it yourself.

Phase 2's are tight, plenty working space though.
Clutch is easy enough done.

Be wary that its not a dog, you could fix the clutch to realise it has a whole host of other problems....

Its old and French, there is definitely substantial risk attached and IMHO the financial gain will not be that great.
Have a friend who is trying to sell a PH1 172 with 100k for just over a 1k and its not shifting.

i'd buy it for myself, as it would be good for spares seen as iv'e got a good running one.
but to buy, fix then sell. i dont think i'd bother steve, unless your thinking of keeping it.
im guessing the belts havent been done either, theres another £400 there
you could break it for parts and make a nice lump of a profit
