also, try this:

http://www.talkford.com/topic/127543-self-diagnostic-test/

To enter the instrument cluster Self-Diagnostic Mode simultaneously press and hold the tripmeter reset button and turn the ignition switch to position II.

When tESt is displayed in the LCD release the button.

The instrument cluster will enter the gauge sweep test.

To navigate through the Self-Diagnostic Mode tests press the tripmeter RESET button repeatedly as required.

The self-test is deactivated when the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position or when the tripmeter reset button is pressed and held for 5 seconds.

Those codes above are available via the cluster though, so you may as well check to see if any of them have caused the EML light.

no?

dashboard diags are worthless, they dont give you any fault codes that mean anything, its mainly faults that show up with the actual dials themselves.

try one of those cheap 14 quid bluetooth obd adapters off ebay and hook it up to your laptop or phone

That's good, sounded like you weren't that bothered in finding the source.

My EML light flashed at me the other day under speed and car did a fuel dump into the engine.

Stupid VAG car

If it like vagcom, you need to set the port you're using in the settings. Ensure it's the same port that's setup for the USB device under your port settings in device manager.
