hello
ive got myself a welder it comes with a handheld facemask but is it worth gettin a head worn one ? also are the auto darkening ones alot better ?
do i need special gloves to weld or will mac tools ones do the job ?

hello im not much of a welder myself,but i live next door to an awssome welder,
the auto darkening masks are good and i use one but he prefers the cheap £10 ones that go on your head,the hand held ones are abit awkward to hold and weld i think.
you need some welders gauntlet gloves there really cheap i got mine not long ago for £2.50 new from a hire shop.
what welder do you have?mig,tig,ark,gas etc im gussing ark or mig

yehhh its a mig welder just a clarke en 90 to muck around with but i guesed it would be hard to weld with a handheld mask , found a deal on gloves and auto darkenin helmet for £26 but would it be a good helmet for tht price as obviously safteys an issue ?

Depends what you prefer when welding referring to masks, I prefer handheld ones for on the bench work but for other times eg, under cars etc I'd use face mask ones. Auto darkening ones are awsome

i use an auto darkening one and cant beat it tbh. but as said get some gaunlets and depending on how much you do either a leather apron or jacket and a nek scarf, as it bloody hurts when the sparks get on your chest

If your only doing it as a hobby, a 20quid ebay auto darkening one will be fine,
I'm a welder by trade, your gloves will probably be fine, I only use gauntlets when it comes to big welds or capping runs as it can get abit warm, other than that I use tig gloves as they're abit thinner and easier to work in.

yehhh its just a hobby , ive found a mask and gloves on ebay for £26 , then i will just buy an angle grinder aswell
do i need tin snips ? any other good accessorries ? like magnets etc ?

Can get a set of snips but most tend to be useless, I prefer a 1mm disk in a grinder, good accessories are mole grips, and clamps, magnets are also a good idea,
Best tool I bought was a half decent joggler, makes making repair panels a lot easier, and some have a hole punch on the other side which is perfect for spot welding.

My mate got some spatter jump down behind the tongue on his shoe and it just burnt and burnt, he had an awful blister, make sure you tuck your trousers in your socks!
