Was looking through a few sites last night with the missus. Came across this one
http://www.completenorthamerica.co.uk/holiday-type/fly-drive-holidays/value-collection-route-66

All flights and car hire included, just need extra for fuel and essentials.

I know a few members from here have done usa fly drives. How much extra cash did you take?

its £1500 , uk company. but still not too bad. only thing is a 25 dollar (+ taxes) a day surcharge on car hire because im under 25 years old, but if im the only driver, split the charge between me and the missus, extra $200 each aint so bad

How much roughly did you spend on fuel doug?

just back from doing dallas-austin-new orleans-memphis-nashville-altlanta

flights from dublin - atlanta for 2 - €900
flight from atlanta - Dallas for 2 - €90
car rental pickup in dallas and drop in atlanta - €850(luxury car)14 days
hotels along the way - €1000
fuel/drink/spends - €2500

the deal in the link is for a economy car which will probably be a yaris or somthing of that size.. thats about the only bad thing i can see although you would want to check some reviews of them hotels as some hotels in the states are complete sh1tholes...

did sanfranciso to LA last year and the whole of florida the year before... i kind of budget 5k fo these kind of holidays.. you might not spend that much but its good to have it in case..

My partner works for a very large car rental firm so we got a cracking deal on a rental car. Had a luxury one for less than an economy one!

I have no idea how much we spent of fuel tbh.

The main expense was eating and touristy bits along the way.

Was a brilliant trip though! Probably one of my best holidays to date
