Very comfy, awesome noise. Shit on fuel. It will literally do 16 mpg with a mix of a road driving and booting it now and again (its what my friend does).

Not a deal has gone wrong with it (he hardly touches it though its purley a toy). Think its had a air flow meter and a idle control problem.

Performance wise, your turbo hatches like astra vxr's and megane 230's etc are all very similar in a straight line, and nothing that a decent driver could sort out between them. The golf's handle well aswell considering the weight.

Actually i take that back. The meganes, astras are faster in a straight line but the golfs can nail it off the line so they get a little a head whilst you catch up and go by. Nothing major though.

Iv seen on adverts claims of 30-35mpg on a run but this will likely be driving like a woman to achieve that. Currently saving for a house but keep getting tempted by a new car and wanting to try and do both
Whats so bad about haldex? Is it a 2wd system until 4wd is needed kinda setup?
Looking at 8k for one with 70k miles.

If you are saving for a house then deffo don't do it. Just get a more powerful diesel... or get some mods on yours so you are more happy with it.

Friend is averaging mid 20's but thats alot of pootling.

Bushes will be going on most of them if not replaced already, fairly expensive to replace them all iirc. Performance wise not bad. A mapped 180 gti will keep with one in a straight line due to weight (rolling start)

Noise is awesome as are the seats if you get the konigs.

6 speed box can have issues with pin shear.

Grip round corners is excellent can really throw them about considering how heavy they are.

edit: 30mpg is possible but you wont be enjoying it at all.

I think I'll just go get a milltek and stage 2 remap on the ibiza, I like my right foot too much and itl likely drain me on fuel bills just now

Not really wanting to part with the ibiza just now after spending £2k the past 2 months, sensible head will be going back on I think

Once rolling you shouldn't have any problems with them Your supposed to have more power and more torque, less weight and less drivetrain losses.
