I had one of them today. It was a all round disaster.

Came out of work, Just about to head home but stopped in the petrol station next to my work to get some juice before i headed home as i planned to pop out later tonight and pick up some parts for the corsa.

I was at the pump next to my boss and after filling up he said he didnt realise my car was a petrol....

its not

Fucking disaster!

I was so pissed off! Mainly because i have always failed to understand how anyone can ever get it confused!

I cant wait till i get rid of this piece of shit and get my insignia.

But yeh, thought i would share.

Petrol into a Deisel really fuck's it

Deisel into a Petrol isnt good, but it will run for a short while.

Stupid thing is the Petrol nozzle fits into a Deisel car, but other way it doesnt.

If you didn't start it, should be easy enough to fix, if you did start it, expect a costly bill

luckily i realised just as i was walking back to the car! Didn't start it or anything.

i did it in my old transit but realised after about 2 litres so just topped it up with diesel and it was fine.

I considered doing that this time but its getting traded in at the end of the week.

Only a tenners worth. I guess it could have been a lot worse!

2K is a lot! I stuck the RAC guy a few quid and he pumped it all out. He said yesterday he pumped £130 out of a new merc and then had to pay mercedes some stupid amount for a new fuel pump.

Petrol into a diesel is fine, its the other way about that isn't.

Should have just filled it with diesel (about £30-£40) and i bet it would have been ok.Tad under-powered till next fill up probably.

I know i have topped a old 93 transit up with diesel after putting in a bit of petrol.

I didn't want to run the risk of a 4000 mile old car shitting its insides out.

Got towed home and sorted it all out though but damn did it suck!

No diesel works as a lubricant for the fuel pump etc. so when you put petrol in and run it, it causes damage. Diesel won't really do any damage in a petrol

Yes buts that why i said if you fill it up with diesel it will be fine.

Done it with my old 306 Dturbo,£10 of Vpower, then another £10 of diesel.Ran,started and drove fine.Didn't have full power till all the petrol was out the system mind you.

If you were to put diesel into a petrol then top it up with more petrol, would it run??Or would it need cleaned out 1st??

I put a bit of diesel in my petrol every so often, burns it off and helps lube the exhaust

Iirc it'd run but it'd be smoky depending how much diesel went in. Generally though I think running diesel through a petrol without realising, normal practice would just be a new fuel filter and a bottle of fuel system cleaner to be sure it was ok

My dad put a few quids worth of petrol into his diesel Vectra, when the AA came out, he asked the guy what he would do, replied with keep it brimmed for a few weeks. Did that and it was fine

So did i...

Then i did it. Its pretty easy to do.

I was told that petrol run through a diesel it can damage or perish the seals? I know you could just throw some extra of the right fuel in and run the shit out but i am not to sure what the deal is on newer engines?

I am glad i did it this way rather than throw some diesel on top and then make the thing shit itself.
