Anyone tried this on a Corsa or Nova beam before?
http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=217368
The VAG beams in that link look similar to the vauxhall ones, so there could be a improvement gained from this mod?

Shouldn't be too hard tbf, plus on the vauxhall beams there is 2 holes on either end too

Yea that wouldn't be too hard to do too a Corsa beam.
I'd be interested to know how good it improves the handling but I don't think I'd ever do it unless I was building an out and out track car.

similar effect to fitting an uprated rear antiroll bar, your just reducing the amount of flex in the rear beam.

And for this exact reason I wouldn't do it on a corsa, Nova sure as you can't get any decent RARB's for them.

i cant really see what benefits this is going to make really, unless you are pushing for sub tenths of a second time around a track maybe
people do this kind of shit then go and stick shit tyres on i dont get it, people read too much stuff on the internet imo

isn't the axle meant to flex?

With all due respect Steve, you don't know as much as half the guys on CGTI.
Also bear in mind that this would have originated on a proper works racing car, not something seen on migweb

exactly a proper works racing car, i dont doubt the theory or its use in proper application but bolting to to a road car that does a track day or two on shit tyres is pointless imo

How many track days would you estimate you need to do a year before doing the sort of mods you have Steve?

been reading that thread for a while now and also other links and it seems its one of those things you either believe or don't.
i can accept the arguement that maybe on an older car like a mk1 golf it strengthens the rear beam, but as said, rear beams have become better over the years and you go chucking an ARB and braces to it, you are just making it heavier. Thats how i would view it.
this sideways force they are talking about couldn't exceed the grip between tyres and road, imo you would lose traction before your axle flex enough to bend on the trailing arm part of beam

also someone raised a point that if you crashed, say clipped a kerb or something, they would rather the beam give them bodywork

if you slid sideways into a kerb if that beam is braced its not going to bend or give meaning something higher would have to, eg turret or something

RARB's make a massive difference on some cars, the mk4 polo platform being one of them.

I'd just fit an anti roll bar if I was bothered, which I'm not.

rear arbs are different not really about reducing beam flex but about increasing the force needed for the beam to pivot between the two suspension points, eg creating less roll

Looks like someone's been using their web forum degree in engineering again. (The bodged up rear beam that is).
