Since I've been living about 5 minutes from one of the south's good mountain biking areas I've been getting more and more into it! Really enjoy downhill, but the downhills around here are tiny - so you have to keep going up the hill after.

I'd love to do a trip to somewhere like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzy-ldCr8wg&t=3m25s

http://www.sauzeonline.com/summer/
http://www.sauzeonline.com/summer/travelling-to-sauze/by-car/

Could get a van / people carrier, chuck all the bikes in it... Head down to the place, do a few days of MTB, head down to Monaco, then maybe the alps, then back to resort for a day or two before heading back.

Would be awesome. Same way I'd love to do Kokanee Crankworx http://www.crankworx.com/ - but thats in canada i think.

Ive got a mate who is out at chatel, and les gets, he goes out every year and loves it.

Definitely worth doing, was looking at canada, but stopped riding, wish i hadnt as others went and i missed it! Back riding abit now though, would be cool to go.

And where is there to ride in the south? Just moved down here!

Well, it's all fairly flat down here, but you get good trails if you can find them.

The place near me is Swinley Forest, it attracts a large amount of people most weekends - loads of people train it from London.
http://www.gorrick.com/downloads/mbuk_swinley.pdf (but you have to find the trails, as they're not exactly easy to find haha)

Then I think you've got epping forest, surrey downs, The Chilterns

On my phone and can't check out the links but any trip like that would be immense.

I've done the Portes du Soleil region in France but not been the last few years because of money.

Any ski resort in the summer is immense providing they cater for bikers.

Megavalanche Gav? Lucky bastard!

Paul if you want downhills where you don't have to pedal or push up check out the Forest of Dean, Cwmcarn and Innerleithen uplifts.

I love DH, used to race until i had an accident doing it. Al, cwncarn is amazing! if you go there on a normal weeknend, yo can pay for uplifts all day. good, proper track with plenty of everything. I'm thinking of buying another DH bike just to go out and have fun on and not compete

what track is that mate? looks simular to one down this way. The more races you do the better thrill you get out of it once you start to relax. no better feeling that hearing the timer count you down on the start line adrenaline rush

cool! yeah, i like a bit of everything DH tbh, good to have a good range of riding.

for example; Rheola is steep and technical, then you'd have cwmcarn wich is fast flowing with berms and big drop off's

makes me want another bike asap now
