Well all over the internet people say to use hammerite smooth and that their brakes still look like new after painting and using for a year or so.

Well my findings are different, about 4yrs ago i painted the calipers on the car with hammerite, just brushed them and then painted, it lasted for a while but looked scabby and could tell rust was underneath.

So bought some different calipers, cleaned them up to a very high standard, no rust at all. Painted them, gave them a few coats, everything was covered.

And here i am two years later and the paint is flaking off and all rust underneath.

My questions now are:

Should i use an etch primer first, then paint with either folia tec or a VHT paint.

hammerite bubbled off my rear drums within a few months when i used it so i got some brush on vht stuff off ebay, it was a bit expensive but has worked great, keeps its colour too without fading

Mines have always been fine.
I do need to redo the fronts because of some garage used a hammer to remove the calipers.

Mine look good for about 10 minutes then they just start looking black again. On trackdays the paint was bubbling & dripping off. I've given up

Have cleaned them all up now, still not sure what paint to get.

some say use caliper paint, no primer needed, others says use an etch primer then a VHT paint.

PJ1 exhaust paint is another i've been recommended.

think i might go etch primer and vht paint, cheaper and also prefer to spray them rather than brush, also the caliper paint needs mixing and it goes off after a while

Problem with powdercoating these calipers is when you take the spring on/off it'll chip the fuck out of it. Pointless powdercoating calipers that need to come apart and risk chipping everytime

powdercoat would mean taking the pistons and seals out again, and i cannot be arsed with that.
