Bought a mondeo as a run around, its a mk2 1.8 td, tax reminder came through and it was £118 for 6 months which i thought was steep. Just checked my dads which is a mk2 but the 2.5 v6 st model and its the same cost
I thought surely the diesel would be cheaper tax then the petrol V6?

Is it a pre 2001. Iirc it changes after then the tax rules.

Ie. My old vec gsi, I had to buy one pre 2001 I think as after then it was £400 forthe year rather than £200 odd. Because they started doing it on co2 emissions where as before it's engine size.

If it's under the old style tax bands then it makes no difference what fuel type it is, only goes by engine size.

Yeah, works for and against really. Pisses me off the Mazda is in that band as it's a 1.6 (100cc over the cheaper band) and I barely use it but then we bought Mum's SLK on an X plate purposely to get it in the cheaper tax band (£200 odd instead of £260/maybe£400 in coming years)

You sure? Thought it was only cars registered after 2006 with co2 emissions over 225g/km were over 400 quid? If its built before then its only 250 or so.

Pretty sure its that as the official dvla.site says that.

Oh I just noticed this:

Band K* (201-225)
12 months - £260.00
6 months - £143.00

Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006

will soon change when they realise how much money they can make, same with lowering the level at which cars become exempt. will be 80g/km before long.
