we passed 3 lochs today....

lochnager, Loch Muick and another..... not a sole out on the water or on the edge from what I saw.

can you just turn up and fish them like rivers? or do people run them?

Depends where it is,

In the hills you can mostly just turn up and fish, fly fishing is better, but spinning also works.

If it's on an estate, they might give you bother, but there is no trespassing laws in Scotland, and they cannot charge for loch fishing unless it's stocked.

The Scotland outwith the central belt is such an awesome place when you get decent weather.

Suppose the rain is what makes it so green but if we had more sun through the summer our tourism industry would be through the roof.

That's what I like.

Doesn;'t matter where you are, Glasgow, Aberdeen, etc your never more than a 20minute car journey from something stunning
