One of my mates went to Melbourne in October for 3 months. He has since got a job at Volkswagon (he is a mechanic) and decided to stay out there a bit longer, he has a visa allowing him to sty a furher 4 years. He can apply for citizenship soon.

As he is going to be there longer than he originally planned, me and his brother are going to go over next year. Having looked at flights (we don't need any accomodation) the prices seem to vary quite dramatically. Best I have found so far is £920 return with Air Asia. Most have been around £1 with some being silly at £2-3k (I'd expect blow jobs on those flights)

We will be going over for 2 weeks.

So far I have looked at the following -

Sydney, New South Wales, Blue Mountains, Canberra and ACT, Western Victoria and Tasmania.

As well as the above I've noted - Parliamentary Triangle, Red Hill, Yarramlumla, Space Complex and Namdgi National Park.

I'm not sure how much we will be able to fit in during a 2 week stay, but that was what I have seen to be of interest. I have noticed that South East Australia is the most dificult to look up on the net, most is for SA which is a little out of the way. I said I fancied a road trip whilst we are over there, he currently drives a Datsun 260C! (I keep pestering him to get a Ute!) Having given him the above list he says a road trip won't be hard to sort!

Have I picked out the best stuff to see in the area and can anyone suggest anything I have left off??

apparently road trips in aus, especially the outback are good, they have these little shops that sell alcohol on the sides of roads and with no police about means you can have a couple of swift halfs while you drive. get a car with aircon though

Thanks, all about the same price as I've already seen, £1000-£1300.

I'm off end of January.

Would want to go for 3 weeks minimum considering how much of the time you spend flying and adjusting to the time.

if it takes you that long your doing it wrong. When you get on the plane you should set your watch to the time that is in the country your going to and go to sleep when you would there etc.

Still 3 weeks minimum i would say. Can get flights for around £650 - £700 if you book in advance.

You're gna need a week to recover from the jetlag, if you're flying via Singapore, they have showers n beds for naps. Melbourne is awesome, he won't come back.

You will probably get cheaper flights if you don't go in summer (December-February).

If you go around May/June time I think flights will be at their cheapest then.
