Lad coming to get my car tommorow, said he cant get all the cash out today, hes alredy booked train tickets etc to come tommorw. He owes £2750

Said he can bring £750 cash, and transfer £2k online. How safe is it? Is it instant? Hes with HSBC, im with Natwest.

Never dealt with anything like this before so clueless. I dont want to let him drive the car away and be £2k out of pocket!!

It took about 2 hours for a transfer to clear in my account.

Obviously it will only let him transfer the amount he has in his account, so it's pretty reliable.

should get him to transfer some now, a small amount then call the bank later to check the status.

Said he doesnt want to transfer today, cause he doesnt like the thought of paying £2k for something he doesnt have, fair enough i suppose, but he has offered to send £50 online to show it will come up instantly. So seems ok i suppose?

Tell him to go to the bank and withdraw it.

Or make him do the transfer infront of you on the screen, then wait for it to hit your account before handing over the keys.

Don't bank transfers take 3 working days between different banks?

I would just tell him to bring the cash

Natwest is open on saturdays...tell him to stop being a pikey and draw it out!

As said above its normally a 2 hour transfer through BACS.

Depends on banks. Some do fastpay (instant) some only do it after the 1st transaction. Ring your bank imo.

Although if he sends it while your there I don't think he can pull it back unless he goes into a branch and tells them it's fraudulent. So get a receipt sorted both ways

Most town centre banks open on a saturday now 2bh. Either that or get him to put a hefty deposit down (like £500)

Majority of big banks are on a fast track system thingy.
Bank transfer is probably safest way of payment, tbh.

Is he using your computer to do the transfer? I would never log into my online banking from a strangers computer! They could have keyloggers etc running and get access!

He knew in advance he would be bringing the cash, so why not just bring it with him? he could have walked in to a bank today and got the cash out. Fuck all this bank transfer nonsense, cash in your hand and he's away.
