Same didn't think decent ones were below £9-10k...£6850 for that is certainly cheap.

I was amazed at this the other day too! Mates got a 330 vert that we are going to respray over winder, so I looked on autotrader for some color choices, there was one on there for £5,995. So much car for the money!!

That is cheap but then he could have got an extra 4k if he didn't have an interior with a colour choice from the 90's
They are cheap now but the lower milage/facelift ones with decent options are still about 15k. The cheap ones are moon mileage or low spec I've found, I'd rather pay the extra

One thing you have to look out for these days on the older higher mileage E46's is on the engines 2.8 up to M3 the rear chassis can fail and spilt
This due to the torque going through the rear subframe and the metal chassis the subframe is bolted to is t strong enough and over about 10 years/100k it suffers metal fatigue
Check on YouTube and google loads of cars in America have done it and the filed a massive lawsuit and BMW replaced the rear lower bootfloor under warranty (mine did it aswell but I work a bodyshop so go it sorted) it's a big job rear suspension and fuel tank out, weld complete lower rear floor in refit everything and a suspension alignment to check it's back to normal
This is why even though I love E46 shape I will never buy another

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't buy a cheap one however tempting they are! I rekon 12/13K is still about the right amount for a decent plate low mileage (50k) with the options and maybe CSL's

Crazy money.
Graham that's a very sought after colour combo and is very rare
As for the chassis thing, doesn't seem to affect that many cars. Usual Internet scare mongering. Had same problem with the Z3's too and again it was 2/3 people out of thousands on the forums. Guess it's how it's been treated all it's life and where it's lived etc?
I'd have another. In a heart beat. Want silver with lab leather though

Personally i think the E46 is a poor car and i wouldnt have one. Performance aside obviously.
Compare one to say an E39 5 series and you have a completely different/better built car.
IMO for sure ;-)

Surely my eyes are deceiving me.
Recommendations not to buy a high mileage BMW?

They're so common unfortunately.
Still, a great machine.
Would I own another one? For that price, yes.

I've driven both extensively as I owned an e46 and my dad an E39 and would say they where built the same?
Only gripe I had with mine was the interior handles where naff.
There are plenty of people running 100k plus on M3 cutters, however Smg can provide a lot of headaches even at low miles so if it where 100k I'd choose manual. Tbh I'd choose a manual anyway because I'm old school but hey

Bushes and brakepipes are not good on them. I feel they are built to a cost. Something youd expect a BMW not to be.

Never had any bush issues on my e46 or my mums e46 or brake lines either. Only thing that annoyed me was window regs

They've honestly never appealed to me, it was an option my old man threw into the ring as he loves beemers but they are extremely common.
Never driven one right enough, closest was my mates fucked 330ci which was a dog.

Only issue I had was springs and two coil packs. Changed all 6 for around £50 that was it.
Yes e46's are known for the front bushes going but they are fairly cheap and an easy DIY fit
