Bloody things

Ok, it loads up and stops on a Windows boot manager screen, I click Windows Vista and.loads up safe mod, last know good configuration . I've tryed them all and loads back up to the same screen. I've pressed f8 for advance opions and tryed them all in the which just does a loop back to the boot manager screen.

It also boots a blue screen about a virus on my computer. I did in install a program called cleaner! Turn it off. Went to use it next day and.its broke!

I've pressed f2 and put cd Rom to boot up with the Vista disc I got with it...but it loads a black screen and beeps like fuck at me!

Any help would be great

Virus.

Fixable if you've the time and knowledge, otherwise just do a wipe and reinstall TBH.

I prefer Vista to XP.

7 handles ramm better than Vista but it's not worth the upgrade.

8 is gonna be a pile of shit.

Vista was a bodge of an OS, Microsoft even said it themselves. Windows 7 is vastly superior to Vista in every way.


Blade_sri - I'm guessing the 'Vista disc I got with it' is a recovery disc you got with your computer/laptop rather than a proper copy of Vista? If you can lay your hands on a copy of Vista then i'd see if you can boot into recovery mode and attempt to restore the system.
Failing that, backup the data off the disk (either whip the drive out, stick it in another machine or use a Linux live cd, boot up to linux, attach an external drive and copy data across) and reinstall as it'll be a lot less hassle than fannying around determining what's causing the issue (although if you have any of the BSOD errors, that would be a start).

Or if the install discs are also pre-loaded onto a hidden partition on the HDD, press the relevant function key when you turn it on to do a factory reinstall.

[let us know what the make and model of your computer is and we can find out which function key it is]

Blue screen says

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check you hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Rub chkdsk /f to check for hard corruption, and then restart your computer

It's not loading the disc up (i.e. it's still booting up from your hard drive).

When you turn it on, you should be able to press something like F12 when you see the Toshiba logo to show the "boot menu" - that is, a list of devices you can choose to boot from.

Once that comes up, choose your DVD drive from the list and the restore disc should load up for you.

Just a thought, if the recovery partition on your hard drive is still intact you could try pressing F8 repeatedly just after you switch it on.
