I guess it's more for geek day but thought it would reach more people here, saw this site on gadget show and it basically shows how strong your password is against programs that generate thousands of combonations a second until it's cracked your password.

How Secure Is My Password


You can even use it offline so if you are worried they store the passwords in text form, it won't be a problem.

It wouldn't though, same as dictionary concatentations wouldn't either.

They might be long char sets but they're also known patterns. Compare a dictionary word of 10 characters which has a complexity of 10^26 - which is big - compared to the length of a dictionary which is about 50k words, which is very small and very quick.

Even if you concat a few words together, they only ever get as exponentially large as the number of joins, which is significantly smaller than starting with someless less well known.

Number patterns are less obvious but the concept remains, they are computationally less expensive than arbitrary strings.
