Who else uses slow cookers?
Its that time of the year where it comes back out, missus works late on Mondays so we always use the slow cooker! i love the fact it costs nothing to run and you can cook everything in there!
Chucked in ours this morning:
Steak
Mushrooms
Onions
Swede
Parsnips
Sweet Potatoes
Normal Potatoes
Peas
Stock cube, gravy and some Horse radish!
best 20quid we ever spent on something for the house!
Might do a Korma in the week in there

WTF do you need an oven for? No dead animals to roast. You just need a tap to rinse off the soil.

I cook dead animals, just not for me
I usually cook chips, veggy burgers, etc in there.
Also use my George Foreman for dead pig sausages and sliced throat cow burgers

I tried a stew in one recently and didn't leave it on for long enough.
It's an old thing that has 2 heat settings but I've no idea what that relates to in time it should be left on for.

Mine has two settings 'low' and 'high'. Depending on what you're cooking, generally low takes 6-10 hours and high is closer to 4-6 hours iirc.

Might give stew another go for the weekend.
That and I'm giving soup a go if ever remember to get stuff for it at the shops.

You cook meat but don't eat it?
That's like being hetrosexual but wanking over gay porn.

Thats the whole point of them though xs
The missus parents got us one, i've never used it though. How much are they to run then ? Thinking would be quite nice to do a chicken casserole before work and then after getting in from the gym it being ready like.

They cost the same to run as a light bulb all day, accordning to some sites.
I cant be sure about how much it actually costs but our house uses about 60p a day while its on, but then that is with the dishwasher and the freezer / fridge running too.

If my failure is anything to go by I'd say Tom's 4-6 hour's is probably not far off, I'll be going with the higher end of that in future.

You can go for as long as you like so long as you've got enough liquid in there, within reason of course. The last time I used one, I cooked a pork shoulder for about 9 hours, but 6 hours will be enough to get some braising steak to be nice and tender.
