Seriously, what did they think he was ordering it for? And how much did it cost him?

I just sent my friend an email about this:
quote:
... what a perfect way to market / gain pr for your company 'monster slippers'
"A company spokesman for Monster Slippers apologised to Tom, from Ilford, in east London, and said the mistake occurred because of a translation error."
...
Think about it for a second... If the clever people at monster slippers actually devised this as a marketing ploy.
Spend a few hundred dollars making a giant slipper. Come up with bogus story about lost in translation... Get media attention world wide and millions of people hearing about your company 'monster slippers'.
lets say a few percent of people who read that story check out monster slippers and a few percent of them end up becoming customers. Ultimately they've achieved a world wide advertisement reach which would cost millions for a few hundred dollars.
Does make you think... after all, would they really be that stupid to make it that large and would you really think they'd pay to ship it all the way from china.
... ahhh seems the guardian has similar suspicions to me:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/reality-check-with-polly-curtis/2011/oct/20/monster-slipper-stunt?newsfeed=true
yup - at the end of that, they found out the guy in the shoe was the website manager for 'monster slippers' company, he's sitting in their office and there isn't even an option on the website to enter a size 14.5 (only able to choose small / medium / large from drop downs)
