I get very bored on my 1hour 15minute journey to work so I've been experimenting with different driving styles and fuel stations etc to see which gives me the best/saves me the most money.

Of my 75minute journey, on average I spend 35minutes stationary or at lights. At what point would it be better to kill the engine rather than sitting with it running at roadworks? Some of the lights/roadworks I sit at have a 5 minute cycle so you can be sat there quite a while before you move; would it be anytime you're sat over a minute?

If you get very bored surely it'd make it more interesting if you drove your car fast

On a serious note, you'd need to work out the fuel consumption on startup, plus the drain on the batt as the anternator will need to do more work to charge batt back up VS fuel used at idle per min.

No idea how you'd work it out tbh

Apart from installing a flow meter in your fuel line and comparing readings.

I was going to FAO Pow/Deano tbh

I used to get 55-60mpg but since my ecu piggyback tuning box thingymajig screwed up, I'm now down in the mid 40s which is about standard.

Doing 500miles per week hurts the pocket, need to gain back aenough for a pint in the pub at the end of the week

Apparently if your stationary for 3mins or more, its more economical to turn your engine off. Dont know true that is though.

Can you drive an alternate route ? Maybe a few miles more but continuous at a pace i.e. 40/50 ?

You haters can GTFO, I drive the Alfa like a stole it 80% of the time, I average 46MPG in a 1.6 diesel. Especially on the way to work as I'm always thinking I'm gunna be late. I'm that cunt who fills the smallest gap changing lanes etc.

I get wound up if people are moving 'faster' than me (moving off the lights quicker, I pass like 14 sets of lights on my commute to work) so I just make as much progress as possible.

I've also taken to setting the cruise control to 85 on motorways/large A roads, fuel economy pfft.

I'm also getting good at setting A404 land speed records at past midnight from the missus to my house.

At least moine isn't falling apart round the engine

I've also found an AWESOME way to save fuel, well, 3 ways:

- Sleep on Laurens sofa (she's spitting distance from work and her Dad would crunch my balls if he found me in her bed)
- Stay at my godmothers (half the commute)
- Nick the Prius at every possible chance (Dad is away on business atm so it's mine )
