Just a general question as above.

So we know a handful of cars can reach 200mph as standard.
Realistically, how easy do you think it is to achieve from say a Jap tuner car or muscle car?
Supra's, Skyline's 700bhp+ perhaps? Do you reckon it'll take a few miles to hit that target?

its hard due to the aerodynamics of most cars, they hit around 180bhp and there is so much air hitting them that it becomes a real mission. there is a 200mph club i think,

Reylands is and example of how hard it is

I tried searching the netz for 200mph club last night. Couldn't see a definite club, tbh.

I was watching Jap street racing and some of them were hitting 300kph+ on highways

just C/C this from another forum

It depends on 3 things:

cross sectional area
drag co-efficient
power to the ground at that particular speed
There is an equation for drag-limited top speed:

Multiply 53.26 by the cubic root of power divided by the product of the drag coefficient and the area. That gives you the top speed for a particular power. Rearranged for power to go 200 mph:
hp=Cd*A*(200/53.26)^3

A super aerodynamic Bonneville racer might only need 100 hp to go 200 mph. On the other hand, a semi would need more than 4000. For normal cars, it will be between about 400 and 550 hp. And these are power numbers at the wheel, at that speed. You can't even use peak wheel hp. Power changes with rpms so while a car may peak at 500 rwhp @6000 rpm, odds are it won't be turning 6000 rpm @200 mph. For example, a manual Camaro SS would be turning 4620 rpm with the stock gearing and tire size. So you will need more peak power then you thought, in the case of the Camaro about 650 rwhp @5900 rpm.

Also remember most people in the uk are trying to hit it on a short run way, hence needing huge power to get there quickly,

Someone on Passionford was trying to do it for £7k with an RX7 and failed.

MRC needed 700odd bhp to do it in a B5 S4

Apparantly this TVR with LS V8 engine has done it too.....

A Vauxhall Calibra would be a good car to use too.Don't know what engine/box combo you would need though.

It's actually easier than you'd think after looking into it.

Standard E60 M5 + remap to have it derestricted = 207mph

So what, £17k? That's all you need

I'm going to remove the spoiler from my MR2 and try hit 200mph along the a915.

Then i will try it with the headlights up.
