if you owned a decent car.

and i mean by that say a skyline, evo, mk4 gsi, e36 m3 etc
late 90's performance car.

and you owned it outright,

but, dont earn enough to fix it.

would you keep it and use it every so often? if it did go wrong its sat there till you can afford to fix it. might be a waste.

or sell it, get something cheaper to fix if it did go wrong, so getting much more use out of it.

It depends on how long you mean leaving it for, a month or two then yea but 6 months or so then it would be pointless keeping it.

they are all <5k cars and wont gain any value in a long long time.

If you cant afford it, you cant afford it.

Having it sitting collecting dust is just wasting money if its insured etc

Evo, astra and M3 i would properly sell. If i had a R34 GTR i would keep it though, ive only even seen a handful of them and think there more special. The others i see on nearly a daily basis.

I would keep it and try and save as much as possible to fix it.

If you have a nice safe place where it wont rot away then go for it.

If I owned it then I wouldn't purposefully not use it in case it broke. If you'd be that worried about it going wrong then why buy it?

and you have to bear in mind there are thousands more cars like it..... it can be bought again or improved on at a later date when funds allow.

Its not a 250 GTO or Muira

Exactly where i was coming from with my comment. Apart from the skyline they are all fairly common cars and easily can be bought again.

hmmm, many views.
i love my evo, but to make it right i would have to shunt a fair bit of cash into it.

its a toy, track day use so only gets used every so often,

but, to put the money into it will take at least 5 months to save it up.

i dunno. i only have part time work now.
but, i own the car outright and i have no debts.

its perfectly useable as it is, just to make it right, its gonna need some work.

i cant help thinking of selling and getting something i can use as a toy and easily fix.

No clear way to go.

Depends what you want, you could put all your spare cash in to sorting it and have a great car that you enjoy, or you might miss the cash.

Its a balance really, I try to be clever with the car spending these days so I can always get out if I wish. Same position you should be in if you throw money at the Evo then sell, it should return what it stands you. To that end you need to find bargains and do the work yourself, which is pretty much what I thought you would be doing.

The other thing is selling things for the right price but that doesn't mean cheap stuff for too much money, it means good stuff that people actually want to pay more for because the stuff is worth what you're asking.
