Do they live up to the hype?
I am thinking about replacing my main system drive with one to speed up the system overall!
Any recommendations?

I think they are great personally, makes the whole pc so much faster.
Without them its like upgrading everything on a car but leaving the engine standard.

I think this is pretty decent, as they are pretty expensive anyway but for £130 and good speeds, it's the best one for this kind of price I have seen.

Just remember you won't be able to take full advantage of that SSD without a SATA III controller. If you only have SATA II it wont exceed 300mbps.

I've got a 60GB purely for the Windows 7 install. Ace, PC boots in about 10 seconds to password screen. Don't have too much stored on it but seems reasonable enough accessing and moving files about etc... Once the bigger drives come down in price I'll probably replace my traditional platter drives all round.

I've not installed any in decent machines yet. Tend to reccomend on laptops that the hard drive has died on. 128s are £20 more expensive that 160GB 2.5 Hard Drives at the moment so i've been going with this.
Looking at 320 or 2x 128 for for my new server build.

Im running a ocz vertex 3 as a boot drive.
Had it in my old lga775 rig, which wasnt ther best.. but it was still fast.
Then i switched it over to my p67 rig (sataIII) and its phenominal, Windows boots in no time, system folders and searches are lightning quick to open/complete.
Bit annoying having to change everything to install to a separate Hdd though

I wouldn't use SSDs in a server environment (certainly not MLC ones like what you'd normally get for desktops/laptops). I'd probably go for an SAS config with 10,000 RPM hard drives as it works out more affordable and the drives will last longer if they are constantly in use.
Anyway back on topic, yes they do live up to the hype. Check out YouTube for SSD comparison videos where people boot up identical systems with Windows 7/Mac OS X, one with a traditional HDD and one with an SSD drive.
They are still quite expensive though, a 256GB will set you back just under £400 for example. Although with hard drive prices not going back to pre-Thailand flood levels until at least June 2012, they seem quite attractive in price at the moment!
If you have a desktop PC, I would probably recommend going for a 96GB or 128GB SSD for your main C: drive, and whatever size hard drive for your D: drive to store all your music/videos/porn on.

I've got two striped at the moment
And then on the other half I've got 4 x 300gb 10k drives in RAID 1
Currently experimenting with the SSD's in RAID0.... people go on about TRIM but these OCZ Agility 3's have built in GC that doesnt rely on TRIM commands and apparently just as efficient, not too sure yet though.
