I saw something on ebay for my car.

I saw it was local (within 10 miles - 20 min drive), so thought i would collect it to avoid the 3-4 day delivery that it would come on.

' We dont except collections' was the reply I got? What would be the reason for this as I find it really strange?

No.

All i am saying is, by posting it they have to do more work (packaged it, take parcel to a collection point or get it collected etc). Where as if i picked it up, non of this would need doing

if they have lots of stock etc wherever your item is perhaps they would rather just post it to you, than arrange a time/place to meet u

They either don't want a visit because they don't want you to know the address, or they're making money off the postage, or they're so massively busy they can't stop for half an hour to meet you.

I would encourage collections, it's far less hassle although I always advertise with postage because you get a proper price then.

If someone is down the road and refuses collections I would wonder what they're playing at.

What part is it anyway?

If it was a one off from a private seller it would be dodgy.

If it's a business that's really common, you can't go ad pick stuff up from most internet retailers.

Yes I am a bit weird. But to be a little serious. Alot of people do not want people collecting items from there house. You have no idea who they are. I know of incidents when people have had a bit of a rumble with said van of pikey nutters turning up. Interwebs full of con artists and Ebay IMHO is the worst place for thieving scumbags.

By all means ask but don't get all up yourself if they say no. If local collection isn't offered in the ad then it's not offered end of.

Quick edit:

Also many a fool has been parted from there money when an item is paid for with paypal and collected in person and they bang a claim in saying they've not received it in the post. You can't prove they've been round to collect and paypal always side with the buyer so you lose out on the item and the money..

I have an ebay shop and don't do collections for most of the reasons in here.

Plus I only get 1 request every couple of weeks so don't mind potentially loosing out on that sale, if it was more common I might look at doing it.

I sold some Pokemon cards (or something along those lines) years ago for an ex's cousin. I accepted collection and this strange man turned up at my door, family in tow to collect the cards. He then produced a wallet and asked if i would like to do some card trading there and then. He then wanted to discuss the various 'powers' each of these had. I made my excuses, closed and bolted the front door.

But on the flip side, some bird and her chesty friend picked up some 206 coilovers i sold a while ago. Blanger-rific!
