I Know how some members love MPG threads so I thought I wouldpost some recent achievements

Our fueling policy in work has changed so i thought I would try and see what is possible

This was over 400 miles so not some reset on average mpg while on the motorway as I know some people will post that

Basically I achieved 70mpg over 400 miles (one return trip to Milton Keynes) leaving 400+ possible from the tank. I know if multiple trips where done its likely to be less

I know people will have their own opinions on this but I thought it was pretty impressive

they now take manufacturers figures and the inland revenue now calculate a pence per mile I can claim back

Mine is now 14p a mile

Yes agree its boring but was trying to see what was possible

Normally get around an average of 55mpg to the tank

when the motorway limit supposed to be going up to 80 anyway? i think that the governments attempt to get more tax out of us... worse mpg doing 80 than 65/70ish

depends on the gearing and also the engines speeds etc

I know the early IS220D where awful on MPG as you could only really use 6th over 85mph the motorway so alot of the time it was in 5th at higher rpm speeds

bit agree in general the higher the speeds the higher the consumption rates

I find the 3 series to be quiet laggy though if not in the right gear (due to really long ratios). But i think bmw have the diesel game wrapped up. The MPG of my works 320ed is unreal. I love doing 100 at just under 2.5k rpm. I think the least i have had it down to is 49 mpg average nailing it everywhere.

yes I found the ED model very long in final ratio although mine is not much behind

It does 79 at 2000rpm

I agree it can quite laggy at time under 1500 rpm

If you drive the latest A4 TDI's how it tells you to e.g. 6th gear by about 30mph at 1000rpm they are gutless as anything. You can barely accelerate

think there all the same to be honest for the 2.0 dervs

They are normally responsive at about 1800 to 2000. Below that they struggle whereas the 6pots are much better

It's stupid, it tells you to change up at really low speeds. It can't be healthy putting that much strain on the engine surely?

I agree Matt, if you watch your current MPG can get better results by changing up later anyways, engine not having to work as hard!

Pow protests too much, blatantly sits at 56mph on the motorway with the heater and radio off.
