Sorry, sausage and mash goes with onion gravy - end of. That is the definition of proper british bangers n mash

Beans and peas with it is just plain weird in any case

I found beans and mash to be a Northern 'thing', where as peas and mash is Southern. Either way, got to have some form of 'veg' with it.

If it's cheesy mash, then has to have fried onions in too. Not as nice as horseradish mash though
