bought a battery for my dab radio on ebay (£17.99) which turned out to be faulty, so sent it back (cost me £3.25 postage).

i've just received a refund for £17.99 but not for the postage.

that's not on is it? wasn't my fault they didn't work.

what you say in an email to him? can't seem to be able to type out something which doesn't sound demanding or shouty

Hi Mate,

It's cost me £3.25 to send the battery back through no fault of my own. Should I receive a refund for this?

Cheer bye,

Gilbo.

posting something when you return it isnt generally taken into account.

Did you pay for postage on top of the £17.99

If it's a business seller, they must reimburse you the return P&P costs under the Distance Selling Regulations.

it was free postage when he sent it to me.

i'd understand if i just returned it because i didn't want it, but it was faulty so therefore his problem to sort out.

Yeah that's fine just tell him that you need paying for your return P&P as per the DSRs.

The only time he wouldn't be liable is only if you changed your mind.

If he doesn't sort your money out, open up a dispute claim against him and eBay will get the money off him for you.
