red primer. Think its called zinc oxide primer.

Sure you can use grey if the top coat is sufficiently thick.
Also depends what you're painting, metal and plastic are slightly different in approach.

if you go into halfords or somewhere mate, look ontop of the colour you want your car and it should say the best colour to use for primer!

Flame red on a Corsa is a 2k paint, so use some high build 2k grey primer, once you flat back the primer it will be a really light grey, perfect for a few coats of red.
