Talk to me.
Heading up to the Cairngorms on Friday for one week. I do not expect the roads to be that bad so I am contemplating taking the BM with a set of snow sock incase the going gets tough.
Should I take the BM or an old rav4 (2000) which is not very comfortable ? Bearing in mind il have the family with me including the 3 year old.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with the socks that's all. I do not expect road conditions to be that bad on the A9. It was just for getting in and out of the driveway from the house.

RAV 4 or BMW with snow socks, whichever you feel safer/confident in. I wouldn't assume anything with the A9 or the Cairngorms at this time of year. Conditions can change too quickly.

You're best off with 4 socks on a BMW as they're RWD and a Rav 4 with normal tyres on it isn't going to be that great if the weather gets really rough.

Thanks guys , it's all weather tyres on the rav but it's not the best in difficult conditions but will be much better than the BM . Just the BM is a nicer place to be on a 3 hour journey.

When they were stuck were they also trying to free themselves by using the full range of travel in the accelerator whilst jumping on and off the clutch pedal. That seems to be the norm when I see BMWs stuck, they aren't actually stuck.

The Rav, has more ground clearance even before considering 4WD, loads of flooded roads up here just now.
I also think the rav would be better than the BMW with snow socks in general.
