Right im currently facing having no car for abit...so will be getting the push bike out while i try and shift my saxo vts thats stuck in my parents garage, till i have time/someone else has the time to come take it off my hands
Looking at different sorts of car's ive pretty much narrowed it down to 2 car's:
mr 2 roadster
rear wheel, sub 900kg, 140bhp...gets almost 40 mpg if driven steady, convertible fun for next summer?? would end up riding push bike to work in back (only 2 miles down the road) to help with running costs
OR
An mg zr 115, l series turbo diesel 115bhp from standard, with few hundred quid wud be looking at about 150bhp (wud be a lill project), believe they run a good 50mpg, cheap tax bracket like £115 for 12 months, insurance about £200 cheaper a year. and have some sort of boot space, wud i guess is handy (the mr2) has nothing much more than a glovebox behind each seat and one under bonnet. Missus' has a hatchback if we need summat shifting anyhows
So question is...which would you guys buy and why?

If I had to choose it'd be the mr2, but I've no desire to ever own or drive either.

2 very different cars.
Mr2 would be bought for fun.
MG would be bought for economy.
Cannot really compare the two like for like as they are such different cars serving different purposes.

very true...but i have a £2000-£2500 budget...these are both affordable at this price...cant afford both...dont think the is much else out there that compares to these. The zr has high mpg, cheap tax and can be pretty power all on the cheap. on the other hand the mr2 is fun...it has decent economy and if im to sacifice economy then i want a convertible thanks for feedback guys. Half of me thinks if im gonna have a car at all i want summat fun even if a little unpractical at times, having driven 2 cars in the last 12 months that have been slow and both ended up in the scrap heap

MR2 for sure.
When looking for a cheap runner on 2 ocassions, i looked at MG ZR's. Both cars i test drove were shite. They drove like shit, brakes were awful, comfort was non-existent. It just felt like a cheap shitty built car. Reminded me of a Saxo in terms of build quality.
I would probably have 1 still, but i wouldnt spend a penny over 500quid on 1 and it would just get ran into the ground and i wouldn't give 2 fuks about it.

Dont be such a fucking girl my missus drives hers in ice and snow.
They are really good handling car and go fairly well.
But they are quite small to drive if you are tall, the missus has plenty of room I struggle (but I am a foot taller)

Have you considered a Mk2 MR2??
Could pick up a nice MR2 Turbo in your price range. Or a cracking Rev3+ N/A.

Not keen on either of them but I'd go with the MR2 over the Rover.
