My corsa is making a whining noise when i press the clutch pedal, im thinking this is the thrust bearing.
Can anyone confirm this and is it gonna cause me any problems in the short term
Also im getting really thick mayo in the oil filler cap, i thought it could be due to the cold weather but there seems to be tiny amounts appearing on the dipstick now.

Short term, shouldn't have a problem with the bearing. Mine whined for over a year but if it starts to rattle, you'll want it done.
What engine? could be a blocked breather pipe causing the excess mayo, or if it's an 8v x14sz etc i tend to find they collect masses of mayo around the cap even if the head is fine.

Done approx 5k since the whining started. It is the x14sz i'll check the breather pipes. Would the rattleing be all the time or under acceleration?

Mine rattled it's tits off on idle with clutch off before i changed it.
Just drive it, it'll be good for ages yet.
Yeah, check breathers, take rocker cover off, remove plastic underside to clean it all out. You should do more frequent oil changes if you mostly do short journeys.

Ok cheers mate, buying a new car soon so just wanted to know if it would last.
I do regular oil changes id say every 4k average been about 3 since last one. I always use castrol gtx, i find there is a big difference between that and halfords own or other cheaper oils.

I think you're wasting your money spending the extra on that oil considering the engine you're running it in.
I'd use asdas finest 10w 40 for £17 if it was me.

I find with castol the engine runs smoother and quieter, also with asda oil my car seems to become a bit sluggish. Also 4k or around that because average my car does 6 miles a day.
