This made me lol removing the weights mod on a skoda VRS
Now you see me :
Now you don't :
Nice little saving on weight there
"They are there to balance the car's handling, making the back heavier.
All Hatchback mkII VRS's have them fitted by Skoda as the rear end is light.
The Estate has a bigger bum so there is more weight hanging out over the back, so they were not needed on that to give good handling characteristics"

Just dont crash, as the crash was caused by a mod from standard will be the words or insurance.
How much weight have you removed? Could fire the spare wheel off?

They must be easy to spin in the wet or something then. Seems quite a quick fix to me. Bolt some weight on

I read an article in evo that said hatch vrs's had balast weights that estates don't have.
Don't think they would just be bolted to the crash bar.

I'd say a 180 bhp hatchback can be quite a quick car if you want it to be!

i totally agree but, by only removing a few kgs from the rear of the car and not touching the rest of it seems a waste of time. might as well remove lots of stuff if u want to feel any difference

Scoda spend millions designing there cars . they don't just bolt on weight for no reason . Like above said it's nice easy get out for insurance when it spins off a roundabout because of poor imbalance . It may make mot brake balance readings out too .

But I'd imagine that is a significant weightsaving, and is hidden. Perhaps the owner doesn't want to strip out the interior etc?

Skoda obviously didn't design the Mk II vRS very well though, or they'd have balanced it more effectively by relocating components. Adding weight is simply an afterthought that they most likely did after finding it too unstable after testing.
And what on earth does removing weight from the rear have to do with the MOT? Genuine question, but I didn't think they tested front to rear, but only across an axle?

rear brake bias valve sometimes need a certain weight on the back for them to work.
we have tested some cars and unless you load the boot the rear brakes do very little and will fail an mot.

All the more reason not to be taking them off then.

Lucky I put them back on a couple of days ago then
It's not very track focused to be honest, just testing bits and pieces out, seeing what can be done. the weights on the back of the car are 25KGs.
It did have a tuning box attached to the engine and ran a 0-60 in 6.1 secs so not too bad a hot hatch. Oh and that Audi Supercharged badge is on photoshopped onto the car, still deciding whether to do it.
