Currently my '04 2004 Fiesta is on 42,000 miles. Service will be due in another 2,000 miles which will soon rattle round. It's a 1.4 Duratec engine.
Now the cambelt change interval is every 100,000 miles (car nowhere near that) or 10 years!
Now approaching the 8 year mark, and being on such 'low' mileage (I've put nearly 12,000 on in a year, the previous owner was doing about 5,000 per year) would it be an idea to get the cambelt done due to short journey perishing, or sack it off till the 10 years is up? Has a FSH otherwise.

I would just wait for the first of these to happen which is likely to be 10 years unless you are planning 50k in the next year or so

Do it if you plan on keeping it. Best to do early tbh.

Kind of what I thought. Especially as most garages don't guarantee a cambelt for another 10 years anyway - or do they?!
Also not a great time of the year to have it done - Dad out of work 'cause of operation on shoulder and I have no cash spare.

You could probably even leave it alot longer, although obviously it isn't recommended.

I am not liable if it snaps by the way. I'd personally leave it.

In your situation I'd leave it, as not urgent. It could go in 5 miles, it could also do another 10k.
Just wait and do it when you have the cash IMO

Deano is going to be tearing his hair out now in a rage trying to decide what to do.

Mine stripped a few teeth off. Literally a month before I thought it was probably about time I got the cambelt changed, but didn't
To be fair though mine was overdue, in Deano's case I'd be leaving it until 10yrs/100k.

That's what mine did but 8k miles & over 3years early. The times are only a recommendation. The £300 or whatever is easier than paying more than that for a new engine & fitting & having no car

10 years seems a long old time to me, knowing what most manufacturers suggest!

I'd just get the condition of it checked and replace if neccesary.
The ZS i had needed doing when I got it as it was looking a littler tired, 80k and 6 years old.
