DC5 and Golf are completly different cars
DC5 = raw drivers car
Golf = comfy cruiser with more turbo poke
VXR= middle man

I get the feeling that Gavin has mis-read Mk4 Gsi for Mk4 GTi.

Depends what you want really. If you enjoyed your GSi you'll probably prefer the VXR for the way it has effortless midrange power. The DC5 will run rings around one on a track, but you have to be in maximum attack mode to move quickly. The cheapest route to power would be a few grand on a Supercharger. I'd take the DC5 as I'm biased towards the way Vtec is delivered. Fucking love it. Especially if you add a Supercharger. Will still have the same mental top end surge which (if you want it to be) could be accompanied by an insane noise.

I dare say Gavin will be similar to me in which he will sail away from them. Even VXR's with alleged 275bhp aren't up to the task. But as I said you'll spend a couple of grand to get a Supercharged vtec like ours!

VXR's and focus RS's are all dispatchable in the civic with the charger. Tis good fun
For you though I would get a vxr if you have the cash. Just like the GSI but more modern and better chassis

Take £10,000 with you to wigan and this Rotrex supercharged DC5 can be bought
or take 7k ono to Uxbridge if you dont mind the same thing in a civic shell

If you can stretch to £10k it'll get you a seriously quick very low mileage Evo 8 that'll run rings round all the cars in this thread.

Lad I know got an ED30 for £12,000 that had a fucking fortune spent on it. 10 pot brakes Was RR'd at 350bhp/370lbft and fucking hell... I am on par briefly rolling in 4th, then he just starts leaving me for fucking dead.

I'd love an edition 30 tbh. I had a play with one in my r32 and I struggled to stay with him. One with 350bhp must be seriously quick.

I really didn't like the Dsg box. Felt alien to me and a bit like a glorified auto lol. The manual just feels better like its you that's driving if you know what I mean lol.

Not that I have driven a DSG but it's a similar method to Smg. It takes more than a quick drive to like the gearbox. Took me about 2 weeks to really learn how to drive it properly and it not to feel "odd" not having a clutch.
P.s launch control and full throttle shifting is hugely addictive.

He had a remapped ED30 before that one that had DSG and he prefers his manual gearbox! Each to their own and all that. It's ridiculous how quick it is Even with the LSD that's in it, if the road is anything other than bone dry, the TCS light keeps flashing into 5th

Obviously I think it also depends on the car too. I.e a DSG/Smg Hothatch might be poo but the Smg is a lot smoother than the manual M3s. Get less diff clacking and jerking in traffic.

if you loved you're gsi then maybe no point going for a DC5, as you need to really work that. Where as the vxr has power lower down in the range! you should buy mine lol
or why not buy an old evo
