Looking at buying a car that has front end damage - seems to be bolt off bolt on job.
The guy is going though insurance, but they haven't paid out for it yet and he has his V5.
What I am worried about is that if I buy this car and then insurance pays out for it, won't they want the car back? What are other scenarios that can happen?
Car will be Cat C most likely when insurance pays out(most likely. Needs new rear and front bumper, front lights, bumper, bonnet, rad and fan)

Once they pay out, the car is theirs.

That is what I am worried about. He(seller) does have the option of buying it back, right?

Depends on what level of cover was on the car and what type of settlements are offered.

I'd leave it until its all sorted personally, just sounds like you can lose out too easily in the current situation

If its categorised at all then it is no longer his property.
They may offer him the chance to buy the salvage but that's if they offer it.
Not entirely sure what happens to your insurance claim if you sell the car mid way through. My guess is that you forfeit the claim.

All he has to do is ask how much to buy it back.
My friend did it just before Xmas. He crashed his car and I wanted to buy it, they offered him a certain price as a pay out. Then a lower price but including him keeping the car.
I was gutted I didn't have enough money been lumbered with a fucked car and just before Xmas cause it was a proper bargain

They haven't paid out but they've authorised him to get rid of the car?
Not sure why you are still contemplating it

Well if they authorised it then they should just reduce his payout I'd imagine.
The car is on Ebay and I went to view it and it is fairly good car, but the price is not very appealing now.
Don't think I will end up buying it tbh.

insurance will never authorise a car to be sold on if there is a claim mid way through on most situations the insurance assesor will come and take the car in the first place
i would stay well clear of it mate on a serias note

Yup I could have afforded it, but would have left me with little money just before Xmas. If the KA I had at the time had already sold id have had it. Then I sold the Ka 4 days after
CTR was £750

Hell get offered a value, then a lower value if he wants to keep it. It's normally just what the insurer can get from their salvage conpany. Though it depends entirely on who's dealing, his insurer the other party insurer or an accident management company.

Well...
My mate has bought the car in question.
We drove the car back to my mates house - 40 miles. I was leading the "convoy" and he was following me. Car never overheated, both headlights worked

Damage inspection

New slam panel installed and radiator far shroud fixed and painted:

Old bonnet straightened out so that we could drive 100 miles to pick up new one.

Then seeing as it was my mates birthday the following day I thought I would stick some balloons on his car at night ( was same night as we picked up the bonnet)

All back together:

Logbook is in my mates name, I have done an HPI test few weeks ago and it was clear.
Also passed MOT needing one rear spring which we robbed of a BMW I was breaking.
