Does this amaze anyone else? I know things have changed a lot since a lot of us were young, but some people are just ridiculous now. I teach in a riding school and it amazing me when kids (talking 6/7 year old) have new iPhones, iPads etc. Why does a 6 year old need a mobile phone? Parents on here, how old would kid have to be to get one? I don't know about anyone else, but my parents wouldn't get me one until I needed it; was going out on my own etc at 15/16 years old.

To be honest, I sometimes forget how I survived in a world pre iPhone, Internet, Laptop, etc
Anyone remember Encarta 96 for doing homework? Or getting an actual Encyclopedia book off the shelf to do research for homework
Truthfully, I think the most interesting thing will be monitoring the economic changes for the 'internet' generation - the people who were born and grew up with the internet.

Oh I know times have changed and the technology wasn't available when we were young that is now, but point I'm making is, it's one thing to let your kid use the laptop in the house, but at 6 year old do they really need a £400 phone? Do they need a phone at all?

why not? not like theyre using it t arrange a piss up with their mates, they have apps that allow them to be creative and let them use their brains and improve hand eye co-ordination

Kids of all ages have had the 'in thing' since time began, it just happens to be an expensive phone these days.

It is incredible how quickly they pick things up. Can't wipe their own arse properly or put their shoes on the right feet but can operate an iPhone, play Xbox and use the Sky+ remote.

our 18 month old is also using an iPad.
It sounds odd, but I think it gives them an edge on hand-eye co-ordination from a young age.
This was her at 16 months old:
